As part of the Digital Currency Council’s Continuing Education partnership with Inside Bitcoins, DCC interviewed thought leaders who will be speaking at the Inside Bitcoins Conference in San Diego on December 14-16, 2015. Today, we share an interview with Dave Ripley, the Co-Founder and CEO of Glidera Inc.

Tell us about how and why you got involved in the digital currency industry.

Similar to many others in the digital currency industry, I was around to experience the internet through the 1990s and beyond.  The open platform for innovation and resultant growth of the network is incredibly inspiring.  Most importantly, the openness of the internet has democratized access to information, positively impacting a majority of the world.  Similarly, we see that Bitcoin and digital currencies can help further democratize access to the global markets, further connecting the world.

What led you to co-found Glidera? What makes Glidera unique?

At a basic level, we founded Glidera to help bring this new technology to more people around the globe.  We provide a service and developer platform that allows Bitcoin wallet and applications developers to add bitcoin buying and selling to their apps.  We handle all of the complexity on the backend, enabling developers to keep their focus on building great apps.

What are you most excited about in digital currencies and blockchain technology right now?

We’re most excited to see applications for Bitcoin that move beyond traditional payments.  As an open platform, the technology offers the ability to expand into many other areas of finance and beyond.

What do you see as the greatest challenge facing the industry?

I actually think there is just one challenge that faces Bitcoin and any other similar decentralized network – scaling while remaining decentralized.  I am certain that Bitcoin will succeed provided it manages to do this.  That said, I do see this as a challenge that does have some elements of uncertainty.  All other challenges will just impact the rate and location of Bitcoin’s adoption.

What’s on the horizon for you? And what are you looking forward to hearing about at Inside Bitcoins San Diego?

For Glidera, we’re excited for two things in the near term – expanding geographically and bringing more value to our app development partners.  For Inside Bitcoins, I am always excited to learn about the newest products on the market and more importantly meet and connect with others in the industry.
