As part of the Digital Currency Council’s Continuing Education partnership with Inside Bitcoins, DCC interviewed thought leaders who will be speaking at the Inside Bitcoins Conference in San Diego on December 14-16, 2015. Today, we share an interview with Jim Blasko the Creator of UnbreakableCoin and Co-Founder of CryptoMarket.

Tell us about how and why you got involved in Bitcoin and digital currencies.

When I first heard about Bitcoin, and mining, it came from a phone call. The funny part about it, was that I was actually searching for gold in the Nevada desert with a shovel and a metal detector. A friend mentioned to me that he was “mining for Bitcoins”, and I really laughed at him, because that’s what I was doing in my eyes, I was mining. Only I was doing it in the old fashioned way. He pretty much had the last laugh but it took a couple years.

You’re involved in a number of breakthrough ventures. Tell us a little about the genesis of bCommerce Labs and the new CryptoMarket.

Yeah I’m currently running around 6 projects at once now. When Michael Terpin and I met in 2013 we naturally clicked as our views of digital assets are exactly the same. We both believe this technology is absolutely ideal to the future of ecommerce and not just with Bitcoin, we also believe Altcoins have a future when created for a specific purpose that serves a real need, or advances technology. Together we started bCommerce Labs in Las Vegas so we could put our ideas together and offer unique services and opportunities. One of the new companies from bCommerce Labs is CryptoMarket, an auction style marketplace (similar to eBay but with Crypto instead), which facilitates the easiest way possible to acquire digital monies like Bitcoin or Altcoins. Users have no need to buy bitcoins or learn anything about mining; they can simply sell their own goods for cryptocurrency.

What are you most excited about in digital currencies and blockchain technology right now?

That’s a tough question as there is so much going on in the space, and most of it is very exciting. Our launch of CryptoMarket has been delayed as the “Voxels” (VOX) opportunity came up and that was extremely time sensitive. I’m very proud to be a part of the Voxelus.com project that will see Virtual Money used solely as the currency for their Virtual Reality platform, which is already available. Voxels is an ongoing Altcoin cryptocurrency project and is the official currency for VR, as Halsey Minor called it. Voxels is a crypto that serves a need and extends technology, and was created by our 2nd company that we call “Coinovate” . Michael Terpin and I both recognized the need for companies to have their own cryptocurrencies and utilize their own blockchain technologies.  Michael and I decided that we could provide a professional service which creates, launches, and maintains a cryptocoin for the client. Michael handles the business side, and I handle the tech side.

What do you see as the greatest challenge facing the industry?

The big media outlets are holding Bitcoin back as much as possible. It may not be the greatest challenge but I see it happening all the time. I commend the companies like yours that promotes the good news of Crypto and not just the bad like I see big media doing. I also take part in Bitcointalkradio.com, which is promoting the stories of crypto and providing news with entertainment in a positive way. Of course the bad stories have to be told too, but when will major media groups finally say, “ok Bitcoin, you’re allowed to have good exposure on our 6pm news”?  These big media groups who can be directly tied to the major banks, and they are doing their best to hold cryptocurrency back. I do feel we’ve got them down to a couple fingers grip and the real change, is coming. We out number them now, it’s only a matter of time.

What’s on the horizon for you?

Expanding Crypto is and has always been my mission. Everything I mentioned above are ongoing projects, and CryptoMarket will start to come to life soon and will get most of my attention for a while. bCommerce Labs has a few investors who believe in our vision, and I’m very thankful for their support and giving us the ability to create amazing services that can utilize crypto technology. I have some plans for another interesting project called BitcoinFundMe. And I’m on any given day, Michael Terpin will come to me and say, we’ve got to build this right away. I also have a crypto project for sports fans that I’m holding at bay until I see what happens to FanDuel and DraftKings here in Nevada.

What are you looking forward to hearing about at Inside Bitcoins San Diego?

As always, I like hearing about the trials and triumphs in our industry and I’ve usually got some crypto goodies in my pocket to giveaway at the event to people I meet. Inside Bitcoins events have always brought me the best overall experience I’ve had interacting directly with the Crypto communities. These Inside Bitcoins events bring together the leaders of the industry face to face with the like minded communities, in a discussion environment that is friendly and open. I highly recommend everyone coming to San Diego this December for the next Inside Bitcoins.
