As part of the Digital Currency Council’s Continuing Education partnership with Inside Bitcoins, the DCC’s VP, Sarah Martin, had the opportunity to interview the thought leaders that will be speaking at the Inside Bitcoins Conference in Hong Kong on May 14-15, 2015. Today, we share an interview with Marcelo Garcia Casil, the CEO and Founder of DXMarkets.
Sarah: What led you to found DXMarkets? What distinguishes DXMarkets among digital currency trading platforms?
Marcelo: Back in 2013 I started getting involved with Bitcoin and crypto-currencies and, having worked for over ten years on trading platforms for major investment banks, I immediately noticed a huge gap in this area – which still exists today.
There are plenty of exchanges but not many trading platforms – and the few that exist don’t necessarily offer a great trading experience like the ones available in Capital Markets. This is exactly the gap we want to fill.
Sarah: You have extensive experience working with investment banks. How has that helped you design and launch DXMarkets?
Marcelo: It’s been vital. Technically, it’s allowed me to build the platform in a way that can scale on par with the best platforms that investment banks have at their disposal, and at the same time do it at a fraction of the cost by making clever use of cloud computing. DXMarkets has been designed to be used by the most demanding players in Capital Markets from day one.
From a functional stand point, having personally worked with professional traders for such a long time puts me in a position where I know exactly what type of tools a great trading platform needs to have, and that translates into a great user experience. For a trader, using the best tools means maximising their chances of making money.
Sarah: What are you most excited about in digital currencies and blockchain technology right now?
Marcelo: I think digital securities are one of the most exciting features right now. Blockchain technology, with its ultra-low cost, its global reach and decentralised nature, brings the possibility of creating digital securities for assets that were previously only available to a select few. This means that, once this is fully developed and widely adopted, pretty much anyone having a digital wallet can invest in any asset by acquiring digital tokens. Think about digital tokens for real estate, IP rights, or locally traded produce. The positive impact for the economy and the society can be huge. For instance, Jetcoin is a prime example of that by allowing sports fans around the world to acquire IP rights of prominent sport players.
Sarah: What do you see as the greatest challenge facing the industry?
Marcelo: The lack of a clear regulatory environment is definitely the greatest challenge right now. Digital currencies won’t be widely adopted until governments get together to agree on a set of policies that make sense and allow the industry to grow in a healthy way without having to cut corners.
Sarah: What’s on the horizon for you? What can we look forward to seeing next from DXMarkets?
Marcelo: Having just launched, we’re now focused on expanding our operations into other regions while we work on a number of very interesting and useful products that will make our platform unique. We have an extensive roadmap of work ahead and we’re very excited about what’s coming!
Sarah: Thanks very much for your thoughts, Marcelo.
